My Living Footprints

A mother’s mission to save a buck, look good, and stay sane

My Garden, my ass, and Chapalang Outfit.

January29

OK, so I’ve been alittle quiet the past days…Reason being… well.. I’M BUSY LER!! Stupid. Ok lazy too.

Missy C now is beginning to be mobile, and very clingy, so it has been hard to hold up the chores with a baby hanging off your hips. Missy A is getting ready for school, so we’re starting to wind down to get into school routine. While baby sleeps, I have been attacking my poor garden.

In my head (so all quite hypothetical) I am going to turn my backyard to a somewhat, sustainable vegie garden. I have this tendency to buy stupid things at the supermarket when all I really need is coriander. Like my last visit to bloody Costco, I was only suppose to get…. ergh I can’t even remember now, but I came back with a receipt that was about 1 metre long… and with the total bill coming up to close to $500. (sorry hun!).

SO NO MORE shopping trips. I’ve decided to turn this monster jungle… into a vegie loving garden. Jammed packed full of organic goodies.

Yes, that is my ass in the corner. :)

hmm I have no idea what the heck I was wearing… so please ignore that. YES I have lots of daggy clothes, and I don’t always wear nice clothes. Next time I take a garden shot, I’ll promise not to don on this outfit. :P I’ll show you another ‘chapalang’ look. MUAHHAHA. Also, looking back now on that picture, it was kinda pretty…. and sad now that I went all ‘human’ (from Avatar) and killed off all the pretty flowers like a giant I don’t give a shit monster.

Ok I’m alittle kuku right now, but that is because I have nothing much to say.

ANyway, so far so good with the vegie garden. I have planted out corn, cucumbers, carrots and pumpkin. I’ve taken photos and stuff but I can’t find the cables to transfer them just yet, and well, I’m NO gardener so there really won’t be much of a “How to” post. Hopefully, it will just be a report about how my green babies are doing.

As for my real babies, I’ve updated you on Missy A and Missy C, so that’s all folks…. for now.

5 Year old’s View

I am bragging.. only because I can. When you see the pics below, you will also understand why I can brag. My little girls’s GOT TALENT!

This is what happens when you let loose a 5 year-old with your camera while you are doing the gardening. I reckon these pics are just beautiful, and she has natural talent.

Pumpkin Sexy Time

January18

My Husband is so smart. I love him….

As we were strolling around in our backyard, I was pointing out a plant that my dad thought was watermelon plants. It was a very prominent plant that seems to have taken over our backyard…its just GONE wild. Anyway.. I couldn’t help but laugh and say that there are these great big leaves everywhere BUT no watermelon. Dad blames it on the water restrictions here in Melbourne and not being able to water them BUT Dave… Dave was so smart to point out that firstly it was a pumpkin plant instead…. and perhaps they were not being polinated.

So I googled it later on and found Pumpkin Nook, and OMG he was right! And after following the steps… I WAS out there helping our backyard pumpkins to have sex! Hopefully they’ll be fruitful and have babies…

I dragged Missy A outside to help me ‘polinate’ thinking it may be an educational experience. LOL

1) Search for a ‘girl’ flower. This is the one with the fruit looking lump on the bottom of the flower…

2) Then look for a ‘boy’ plant (below…)

I really wasn’t too sure which was which but after a careful look inside the flowers, I discovered that the inside of the ‘boy’ plants look like this…

…And the ‘girl’ plants look like this inside. Boys… one lump thingie… girls have these pretty four lumpy things…(how cute!)

3) Then pluck the petals off the sacrificial ‘boy’ plant. Aparently the pollen is ready if you rubbed your finger on them and the yellow stuff comes off… its READY to use.

4) Then its sexy time! Stick that ‘boy’ into the ‘girl’… give it abit of a jiggle. Hopefully it works!

Missy A and I had 3 girl plants that we’ve ‘helped’ to fruit.

One thing Missy A asked me during this whole process made me laugh and UM for a while…

Me: C’mon Missy A, we have to look for the boy flower and girl flower.

Missy A: There are so many flowers mummy

Me: I know! Isnt’ this fun! Oh there’s a boy one…

Missy A: Mum… why are there boy and girl things when they are just plants??

Me: Um… hahahahah!!!….UM…. hehehe… just help me look and we’ll get a book about plants and learn together….

Lol… ANYWAY… Stay tuned for the pumpkin babies!

Kids Holiday Project

January9

I am not super mum, nor am I wonder woman… so I have had a few holiday DAYS where Missy A and I do… NOTHING. Some days I just can’t think of what we could do together, or times when we just don’t have the resources (Like money…) to do what we would like to do. So, admittedly… I am looking forward to when school is back.

Nonetheless… we… Missy A and I have had a productive day today. A few days ago, we bought a few mini pots from IKEA, which only costed $3 each… and we painted them with Acrylic paint we had at home. Today… we planted stuff into it. Filled them up with potting mix, and sowed a few seed into them… then watered them. Not too hard right? This took out the boredom out of some of the day.

We then made our own little ‘tags’ for what we potted. Basil, Coriander and Chives. YUMMO… but they all take about 6 weeks to germinate. Bleh…  Anyway, we thought of making the tags with icy poll sticks but could find any but found disposable chopsticks instead which worked out really well because we just had to punch 2 holes into them to make them stay.

We also used quite abit of sticky tape to try to make them somewhat water proof. I think using those clear book covers could do the trick… but its all about being innovative with the resources you have right?

Anyway… we got outdoors, and spotted that our neighbour’s blood plums had creeped into our backyard (THANKYOU GOD!!) and we grabbed our basket and pluck what we thought was ripe.

I LOVE BLOOD PLUMS!!!…

Then the rest of the day… I cooked cheesesy mushroom pasta for lunch, and planned out our goals for 2009. Watch out for the post soon!

Welcoming Summer!

October12

There is really only one way to celebrate a 28 degree day especially on a Sunday… and that is by wearing a dress! Ok maybe a pool party with a BBQ or a cocktail slushie party could do it too but I don’t’ quite have the facilities and well that takes way more effort than to slip into something pretty.

A nice detailed, pretty collar draws attention up, and can balance out wide hips, and make your waist smaller… I find anyway…

Backyard Discovery Channel

September28

It is Spring time and well… the birds and the bees will be out and about doing their thing. So while I was taking photos in the garden I discovered these LadyBugs! Hmmmm… does that make it lady on lady action?

So when they realized that I was playing paparazzi, they cowered away for some privacy…

Then I realized and screamed to my dad that his plant had a disease!

BUT as we took a closer look…EW EW EW EW!!!! They were teeeney tiny bugs and bug eggs!!!

HOW LONG HAVE THOSE TWO BEEN GOING AT IT!!!???
